A page for listing items of interest to anyone looking for clues to the family history. There is a LINKS page also. On the links page I have listed other web sites that are dedicated to genealogical information. The items here could have possibly come from those sites or just be mentions of family names in conjunction with other information. If you have items of interest that you have come across and would like to share please forward them in an e-mail to me and include the source line so others can access the item easily.

If you need to search for a specific name or item, go to your find menu (command or control-F) and type in the item of intrest, then search the list.

Mike Vennard's research, the latest versoin 11-03

My Disclaimer: Please note that when I started this I was a bit remiss in realizing that keeping the URL's of the stuff I found would be enormously usefull. I'v included what I have, even though the information lacks proper documentation. As the listings were compiled over a couple of years and short term memory being what it is I expect that some items may be repeated several times, we'll have to suffer with it.

Vennard
Your name of Vennard gives you a clever mind, good business judgment, a sense of responsibility, and an appreciation of the finer things of life. You are serious-minded and not inclined to make light of things even in little ways, and in your younger years you had more mature interests than others your age. Home and family mean a great deal to you and it is natural that you should desire the security of a peaceful, settled home environment where you can enjoy the companionship of family and friends. Whatever you set out to accomplish you do your very best to complete in accordance with what you consider to be right. In the home you assume your responsibilities capably, having the self-confidence to form your own opinions and make your own decisions. Others can rely on you; once you have given your word you will do your utmost to fulfil a responsibility. However, there is a tendency to be a little too independent in your thinking and it is difficult for you to accept the help of others when you should. Due to your strong sense of responsibility, you could experience worry and mental turmoil through assuming more responsibility than you should. Friction could arise through others feeling that you were interfering with their rights and privileges, even though you are only trying to help.

According to contemporary New York newspapers, the bark ARION, of Boston,
[Matthew B.] Vennard, master, arrived at New York on 13 November 1851, 31
days from Cardiff, with iron and steel, and 7 passengers, to order.

The vessel in question is the bark ARION, 425 tons, built at Alna, Maine, in
1850; in 1851, she was advertised as sailing in the Stanton & Thompson Line
of coastal sailing packets between New York and New Orleans [William
Armstrong Fairburn, _Merchant Sail_ (Center Lovell, Maine: Fairburn marine
Educational Foundation, [1945-55]), vol. 5, p. 3354; Carl C.
Cutler, _Queens of the Western Ocean; The Story of America's Mail and
Passenger Sailing Lines_ (Annapolis: United States Naval Institute, c1961),
p. 521].

For further information on the ARION contact the

VINCENNES, IND.

Man held in deaths of dad, stepmom

A Vincennes man was charged yesterday with murdering his father and
stepmother at their home.

Jeremy Vennard, 19, was arrested at 6:30 a.m. while trying to enter the
home of an acquaintance,
Vincennes Police Chief Robert Dunham said.

The bodies of Vennard's father, Darrell McKendree, 44, and his stepmother,
Marjorie McKendree,
41, had been found several hours earlier in their home on the city's north
side.

Vennard, who lived in a mobile home next door, was charged with two counts
of murder. Police
declined to discuss a motive for the slayings.

Teen said he did it, friend says -- Prosecutor may seek death penalty in
double-homicide

2 witnesses have told Vincennes police that a 19-year-old man took them
to view the bodies of his father and stepmother to prove he had killed
them.

After allegedly stabbing both victims to death Wednesday morning, Jeremy
L. Vennard went to a nearby home with both hands covered with blood-
soaked socks and told an acquaintance he had just killed his parents,
Darrell and Marjorie McKendree, police said.

The neighbor said he was awakened around 3 a.m. to find Vennard knocking
on his door. Vennard allegedly asked him to hide the bloody socks.

The man responded by asking Vennard to "go back with him to his parents'
house, in hope that Jeremy was lying or wrong," according to a probable
cause affidavit filed on Friday.

On the way back to the McKendree home, in Vincennes, Vennard and the
witness woke up another neighbor to go with them "in case the McKendrees
needed help, and also to have another witness," the affidavit indicated.

The trio went to the front door of the home and could see someone lying
on the floor. Vennard allegedly fled while the two men went to a nearby
pay phone and called police.

A shirtless Vennard was arrested about three hours later in the back yard
of a nearby residence. Police say his back and hands were covered with
dirt, scratches and cuts.

Investigators have said they suspect drugs may have played a role in the
deaths, although Vennard's biological mother said Wednesday that he has a
history of mental problems and was released from a mental institution
about three months ago.

Both victims were found with multiple stab wounds and with their throats
cut. The pants pockets of both had been turned out. An empty wallet
belonging to Darrell McKendree, 44, was found next to his body, police
said, and several drawers had been ransacked.

Investigators also found several knives in the home and on the lawn, but
its undetermined if one is the weapon used in the slayings.

Vennard made his 1st court appearance Friday afternoon in Knox Superior
Court. Wearing a purple jail uniform and shackled at the ankles and
waist, a disheveled Vennard answered affirmatively when asked if he
understood the charges against him - 2 counts of murder and one count of
robbery, an A felony.

Knox Prosecutor John Sievers said he will decide in a few weeks if he
will pursue the death penalty or a sentence of life without parole
against Vennard. If he doesn't, Vennard could face up to 180 years in
prison.

"This was a very violent scene, very grisly," Sievers said after Friday's
hearing.

Sievers said he was not real surprised by the facts of the case,
considering Vennard and the couple "had a tumultuous relationship in the
past." Police have responded to several domestic disputes at the
McKendree home.

None of Vennards family members were in the courtroom on Friday.

Marjorie McKendree, 41, is the sister of Vennard's biological mother.
Vincennes Police Chief Robert Dunham said Darrell McKendree was Vennard's
biological father, although Vennard had been adopted by another man
several years ago - which would explain why they have different last
names.

Judge Crowley set a Jan. 4 pre-trial hearing and a trial date of Jan. 22.
In light of Vennard's mental history, a hearing on his competency to
stand trial will likely be held before the trial date.

Public defenders Bryan Jewel and Chris Ramsey were appointed Friday to
represent Vennard.

William Vennard, who had a MasterÕs degree and was Chairman of the
Voice department at USC and was the President of the National
Association of Teachers of Singing, approaches vocal pedagogy from a
scientific and mechanical aspect. This study can be used by vocalists,
teachers of voice, and people of science as a profound gathering of
information. Vennard has done extensive research and proves it with an
impressive bibliography with 205 entries. It is very user friendly as it
also
includes an extensive thesaurus and a detailed index. It is also well
organized as each paragraph is numbered for reference purposes and
there is an abundance of illustrations. It is a very fact-based writing, but
is
easily approachable and even includes a Peanuts cartoon to demonstrate a
vowel sound.
